چکیده
Diatoms are one of the most important eukaryotic primary producers in lower ecosystem; understanding their evolutionary history is therefore also important. Throughout Cenozoic hydrosphere, diatoms have flourished. However, as a result progressive diagenesis and dissolution opaline silica that forms frustules, early evolution during Cretaceous unclear, so fossil record incomplete. Largely because this poor record, little known about mid-Cretaceous interval (Cenomanian to Turonian). This study presents new Cenomanian carbonate concretions hosting ammonites from Hokkaido northwestern Pacific Ocean. Primitive floral assemblages composed dominantly cylindrical or discoid associated with few hemiaulid diatoms, predominant taxa since Campanian age. The similar late Early (Albian) flora reported mainly Southern Hemisphere, but given association typical Late Cretaceous, they somewhat transitional.

Cocconeis churalis: a new marine diatom (Bacillariophyta, Cocconeidaceae) from Japan
A new species of Cocconeis, C. churalis, was found on a red seaweed collected from the Southwest Islands of Japan. Its morphology was examined with both light and scanning electron microscopy and the details are described here. This small diatom is characterized by the concave raphid valve with a slightly sigmoid raphe and uniseriate striae consists of circular areolae occluded by hymenes with ...

The diatom composition on some Charophyceae taxa was investigated in different freshwater ecosystems in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro during 2007. A total of 91 taxa belonging to 37 genera were identified. The genus Gomphonema with 9 taxa was the most diverse, followed by Navicula (7), Nitzschia, Pinnularia and Gyrosigma (5). The number of taxa at the localities varied from nin...
متن کاملSterol composition in muscle and viscera of the marine bivalve Megangulus zyonoensis from coastal waters of Hokkaido, northern Japan.
Sterol composition in muscle and viscera tissues of the marine bivalve Megangulus zyonoensis was investigated. Among 13 different sterols identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry of their trimethylsilyl ether derivatives, cholesterol was the most abundant sterol, followed by 24-methylenecholesterol, in both muscle and viscera tissues. In this study, the proportion of brassicasterol, i...
متن کاملUpper Cretaceous Foraminifera from Japan
IN THIS PAPER the discovery in Japan of smaller Foraminifera from the Upper Cretaceous strata is recorded for the firsi: time. This contribution, in addition to its specific biostratigraphic application in Japan, has further interest by reason of its extension of the geo. graphic range ,of the widely distributed Cretaceous pelagic foraminiferan, Globotruncana. In the north Pacific region, Globo...
